The World Bank maintains a vast collection of economic and social indicators by country since the 1950s. The World Bank data bank served as the primary data source for this project. Additional social and political indicators come from the Freedom House and Our World in Data websites. Freedom House is a non-profit research organization that studies democracy, political freedom, and civil rights, releases an annual report ranking and scoring each country on political freedom and civil liberties (1 to 7, with lower scores indicating more freedom). The 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which measures public sector corruption based on expert assessments and opinion surveys (scored from 0 to 100, with higher scores meaning less corruption), was obtained from Our World in Data. The foreign aid data come from the US State Department, which provides the amount of foreign aid donated by the US to other countries in a given year.
